Welcome to the NEW NJPHS Free Library....

The New Jersey Postal History Society was founded in 1972, to study and enjoy the many aspects of New Jersey postal history, and to share it with others students of this area of philately.  Much of this information touches not only on other fields of philately, but also on many aspects of history as well.

For the last 35-plus years, we have produced a journal, NJPH, which contains a great deal of information, and we have decided to make that information available to all who might be interested.  We have thus put our journal online for all but the last five years of its existence.  [These recent journals are available as well to members only – a good reason to join the New Jersey Postal History Society!]

Instructions for use: This library of past journals is arranged by whole numbers.  Many older ones suffer from their creation in the “photocopy age” of journalism when pictures did not reproduce well, but there is nevertheless a wealth of information available here.  Feel free to browse, or open either the xls index [which has been sorted by Main Topics, but can also be sorted as you wish for a particular author, or a particular county or town], and searched using your Control>F (find) feature on your own computer.  This will give you the Whole Number you are searching for.  Use it to open the appropriate journal file (all text-searchable pdfs) by clicking on that number on the journal links page.  The journal will open in your browser in a new tab or window.

The earlier issues have readable text, but the photocopied illustrations leave much to be desired.  If a reader would like us to try to get a better scan from one of these issues, please inquire.  By 2002, scanning produced better images. We also introduced at that time an interactive table of contents – clicking on an article in the TOC will bring you to that article, and return is made easier by bookmarks at the left.  By 2003, we were using color in our online pdfs and these are an easier read.

As mentioned above, all are searchable pdfs.  Some are large files so be sure they have fully downloaded before saving or searching them.  All are created for Adobe 8.0 or later, and if your Acrobat Reader is not up to date, we recommend downloading a more up to date version, free at http://get.adobe.com/reader/otherversions/

Happy reading!

Our thanks to :
We would be remiss in not giving credit to Professor Mark Sommer, an NJPHS member and professor who donated his collection of NJPH journals for this project.  His generosity and interest in preserving these sources is much appreciated.
And Charles Livermore, not a member, but who volunteered to scan all those journals not already in pdf format – a daunting job.  Thank you for your excellent work.
